Call your Senator or Representatives' offices before your trip and reserve tickets for Congressional Visitors' Galleries or a White House tour. Witnessing Congress in session and getting the chance to stroll the same halls the President passes through daily are experiences you won't soon forget.
Historic U Street has been home to the city's music scene for decades. A haven for Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Miles Davis back in the neighborhood's heyday, Bohemian Caverns is still home to a happening jazz scene. Down the street, the 9:30 Club hosts big names in a tiny, acoustically-flawless venue, and Ben's Chili Bowl boasts the necessary late-night chili cheese fries and the best juke box in town.
D.C. lays claim to plenty of national icons: Arlington Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument, but don't let them take all the limelight.
